Insta360 has launched the POV Head Tracker, a compact Bluetooth accessory designed to synchronize the Luna Ultra camera with the user's head movements in real time. The coin-sized device aims to deliver immersive first-person video content without requiring operators to manage the camera themselves. Pricing starts at $69.99 in the United States.
What the Device Does
The POV Head Tracker weighs just 6.4 grams and measures approximately 25mm in diameter. Once paired with the Luna Ultra camera via Bluetooth, it tracks head orientation and adjusts the camera framing accordingly. This allows creators filming solo to compose shots naturally, simply by looking where they want the camera to point. The device carries an IPX4 water resistance rating.
According to hands-on testing, setup involves a straightforward calibration process. Users look straight ahead for three seconds, then straight down for three seconds. After pairing, the camera responds to head direction without additional input. The system proved functional across standard use cases including product reviews, travel vlogs, and active footage capture.
Hardware Package and Battery Life
The retail box includes a right-ear mount, adhesive pad, strap, and clip alongside the tracker unit itself. Everything stores inside a compact USB-C charging case. Insta360 also sells a neck mount separately for $24.99.
Battery endurance reaches approximately seven hours of continuous operation, which covers typical full-day shooting schedules.
A notable limitation involves simultaneous Bluetooth microphone use. Testing indicates the POV Head Tracker cannot operate alongside the Insta360 Mic Pro through Bluetooth pairing. The Luna Ultra's detachable LCD screen module can display the camera view remotely, which helps when recalibrating or checking framing without removing the camera from its mount.
Sync Accuracy and Calibration
Testing revealed occasional sync drift between head movement and camera pointing, particularly when using the Luna Ultra's 3x telephoto lens compared to the ultra-wide option. Recalibration can be triggered by looking straight ahead and double-tapping the Luna Ultra's center button, or through the standard calibration gesture.
The single-ear design means the ear mount fits the right ear only, which may affect comfort during extended use. Physical stability during active movement received mixed feedback in testing scenarios.
Pricing and Availability
The POV Head Tracker retails for $69.99 in the United States, £67.99 in the United Kingdom, and AU$115.99 in Australia. The neck mount accessory costs an additional $24.99 / £23.99 / AU$39.99.
